Books open the door of knowledge and imaginations. People nowadays are not ken to read because of many obstacles. They tend to play video games and watch movies. However, there are still people who enjoy reading books and I am one of them. So, is reading books really good?
A book that I enjoy reading is 'The Adventure of Sherlock Holmes.' The book was published in 1995 and about a journey of a famous detective, Sherlock Holmes and his sidekick, Dr. Watson. They were together solving mysteries and puzzles. I love this book because of the proper storyline and great characters.
From my point of view, I think reading can make us a better person because there are books that contain moral values. Thus, our personality and behaviour will be influenced by the values. For an instance, 'Jack and The Beanstalks' teaches us gratitude and perseverance. Furthermore, reading can shape us to be better as it widens our field of knowledge. Hence, we can improve ourselves intellectually by reading books. For example, history and science books may give out facts that we have not known before.
Secondly, I personally agree that the tendency of people to do non-beneficial activities has made reading not a popular hobby anymore. From my observation, people would prefer to be with their smartphones scrolling and chatting than staring, reading and understanding long paragraphs and texts.
In a nutshell, reading can make us a better person when we apply the moral values we have gained from reading books and it also wides our knowledge. As people's new hobby is Netflix-ing, reading has become not popular anymore. If only they knew flipping every page of a book is a kind of 'healing' process, definitely, they would rather choose a book than a drama series.
